Eve needs an official, central, reliable killboard. Why is this not a thing? I'm not even sure how to make this post longer, or more useful. Please give us an official killboard. |

Wait, what?
Oh, I thought it was new idea.
I guess I did need to say more.
What we have are third-party tools which display data offered by players and corporations. These tools are unreliable, because there isn't a single one of them which all players and all corporations offer data to. That's why the various killboards that we have are inconsistent.
I would like that data to be displayed by CCP, automatically. This would make the displayed data reliable and comprehensive.
Ines Tegator wrote:Kill mails are overrated.
The rankings that the various killboard sites display are overrated. The data itself is invaluable. For example: it is the single best way for players to evaluate the character of corporations, and for corporations to evaluate the character of characters. Corp website and recruiters can say whatever they want; killboards tell a better story.
I don't care about who kills more often with an incursus; I care alot about which 'pvp' corps are actually active, and which indy corps are hemorrhaging barges. And so on. |

Neither you nor I have any clue about how much it would cost for CCP to display kill mail data, over and above what it costs them to run the Eve Gate site. Let's not pretend that we do. |

And when things break (they always break at some point) CCP doesn't take the blame and doesn't have to spent the time and effort to fix it... allowing them to focus on things they want to focus on.
Your explanation as to why there isn't an official killboard is plausable, and very likely to be true.
This thread is now about the merits of having centralized, comprehensive kill data made available. It doesn't have to be a CCP killboard. It could be like a kill data dump API, which third-party tools can scrape. That would be preferable to getting the data via character APIs.
Someone go make a thread about doing this for market data, too. |

Killboards are bad enough already.
Do go on. |

And to my knowledge, there is market API data available but it is delayed to prevent wholesale market manipulation.
That's how it works now, yes. I'm suggesting that the aggregated data be made available without player consent.
The data on eve-central comes from APIs that players submit, too, I thought. I'm not clear on whether or not there is aggregated market data to scrape otherwise.
None of this has to be displayed in real-time. I'd just like it to be accurate and comprehensive. That kill mails can be verified now is great. That makes them accurate. Now they all just need to be displayed somewhere. |
